DSC_5348.jpgWelcome, friend.

I’m so glad you’ve decided to pop on by.

Wondering what you’ll find on this site? Well, a little bit of everything, but it might include mentions of some of my favorites:

My babies. Iced americanos with coconut and cream. Sunshine. San Francisco fog. Oakland sunshine. Vanilla bourbon ice cream. Heirloom tomatoes. Dahlias. Stacks and stacks of books. Hiking and camping and backpacking and dirt. A cold glass of Chardonnay. Sunset magazine. YA lit. Riding my bike. Parks. Long walks. Zumba & my Inner Latina. Messing around in the kitchen, especially if I don’t have to clean up. The Justin Bieber holiday station on Pandora. Pizza on the grill. The HBH (Hot Black Husband). Saint Anne. Madeleine L’Engle. BBT. Theology.

I’m passionate about living life to the fullest, my faith and issues of racial and social justice. And to me, storytelling is the way all of this happens.

So, who else am I? I write and speak and care for my sons. I am a member of the Redbud Writers Guild and part of the Red Couch Book Club team. I am the co-host of Shalom in the City’s monthly book club podcast, and a monthly contributor at She Loves Magazine and The Mudroom.

You can get to know me through my words in this post that went viral, and in A Letter to My Black Son, both of which were featured on Faith It and For Every Mom. Or if you’re a list person, have no fear, for my way to get through Costco with two littles is here (and was featured on Scary Mommy).

You can also reminisce on your twenties in another letter, this one to my 24-year-old self. No matter the season, perhaps you’re in need of a little humor and snark from this year’s Christmas letter. Finally, you’ll hear about various books most every week, so check out how to bring sexy back.

And remember, you are welcome in this space.
